Lake County's Hindu community celebrated the anniversary of the Hindu Mandir temple with traditional dance, food and guests. More than 2,000 people attended that event, with cars lining Peterson Road for several hours with people trying to get to the festival.

The Hindu Mandir of Lake County (HMLC) is a Non-Profit Hindu temple situated in Grayslake, Illinois. HMLC initially opened in 2004 for a growing Hindu population in the northern suburbs of Chicago and has been open ever since. The symbolism and structure of a Hindu temple are rooted in Vedic traditions. It incorporates all elements of Hindu cosmos - presenting the good, the evil and the human, as well as the elements of Hindu sense of cyclic time and the essence of life - symbolically presenting dharma, kama, artha, moksa, and karma. Located near Grayslake, Hindu Mandir serves an estimated 3,500 Hindu families from Lake, McHenry and northern Cook counties.
