'Swades' Independence Day Celebrations

On August 6th 2016,  Milpitas saw its very first Indian Independence day celebration.  This unique festival was a product of many Indian organizations coming together in unity to celebrate the large Indo American community in this part of the world. Thousands attended ‘Swades’ to Celebrate India’s Independence Day. The outdoor event, which was presented by Association of Indo Americans was supported by over 30 Indian organizations in the San Francisco Bay Area.
 
Popular Indian actor R. Madhavan was the special guest for the event and the crowd was delighted on seeing their favorite star. According to the organizers, the annual event’s motto is to showcase and propagate Indian culture, its diversity and unity, and its various art forms. Kuchipudi, Bharatanatyam, Kathak, Bhangra, Bollywood and classical dances by kids and adults entertained the audiences thoroughly.
 
The event was a wonderful experience for one and all. Exciting rides for children such as water ball, Zorb ball, tea cup rides, Bungee jumping, Pony rides and petting zoo.  Indian and American super hero Mascots such as Chota Bheem, Bala Krishna, Bala Hanuman, Spiderman, captain America and many more.  Nostalgic picnic sports including lemon and spoon, Sack race, etc.,   A Unique DJ junction with prizes for best dancers, an all around India Food festival, Day long cultural programs, Stalls selling Indian clothes, Jewelry and of course Flag hoisting ceremony with pomp!
